Feeling like you're drifting all alone in the once-fun-but-now-too-quiet pool of Livejournal? Not to worry! [livejournal.com profile] silviarambles is running a friending meme!

Friending Meme for LJ Survivors - 2015 Re-edition

Please remember that friending frenzies work only if you spread the word, so, even if you're not looking for more friends, would you mind doing me a big favour and pimping the meme on your own journals?

Thanks!

My ETA The way it works: The link takes you to [livejournal.com profile] silviarambles, the host. In the comments, you answer a set of questions (provided). People read your answers & reply if they want to friend you. Easy!

Thanks to the ever-informative [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe, paid members might be interested in clicking here, if you haven't already heard about it.

I am investigating Goodreads, on which I am Mazikeen. I don't quite understand it yet, for I am poor with computery things, but I am sure it has a Higher Purpose than listng all the books I can remember reading.

I am also investigating [livejournal.com profile] lolhistory, which is like cat macros but with history instead of the cats. Personally, I haven't liked anything as much as the quark cats. Upcat! Hee!

Mmm, pie

Exposition on fanfic, by someone with a brain, here. The post she refers to at the start is this one (both linked with permission; thanks).

In case I need to say this, yes I read and write fanfic, including some levels of smut, and yes I do get offended when included in the sweeping "All Fandom [insert relevant insult here]" statements from outside.

Right.

Cocking will occur (with added shoptails) on 30 June and 21 July. We can sort out when & where to meet nearer the time :)

[livejournal.com profile] nannyo, this means I can visit / meet you in Leeds on 9 June or 14 July. Entirely up to you (and Our Glorious Leader can do either, too).

Hurrah! Add in the Dublin trip on 6-7 July, and I'll actually be building a social life again!

Obligatory LJ Scandal post: People screw up. It happens. They've apologised & are trying to fix it. Yes, it could have been handled *way* better. Yes, the original "Oh no, what a ridiculous idea!" response now pisses me off. Yes, I *am* pleased that they've overreacted rather than the opposite.

More than anything, I love my new fandoms :) The most intelligent, not-kneejerk discussions are happening on anime/manga fans' journals, with most people waiting to see what *really* happened rather than spreading the escalating rumours and outrage without checking to the source. The part of me that still thinks like an auditor has been cringing at all the unsubstantiated hearsay and accusations.

Three of my LJ interests about which she wanted to know more:

Chocolate bottoms

One February, David bought me a chocolate heart lollipop from Thorntons. I think they were in the sale. But tourn it upside down, and it was bottom-shaped; the edges were the right angle for the way hips slope up into a narrow waist, and it had well-defined buttocks, too :)

Plus, chocolate & bottoms are both Good Things, so imagine the synergy of combining them!

Insane angels

Inspired by Tilda Swinton as Gabriel in Constantine. For an atheist, I certainly do love the idea of angels & fallen angels and all that. Then there's GNeil's Murder Mysteries, where "insane" might be stretching things a little, but insanity's only really ending up at a different place from everyone else, given the same set of facts, right?

Insanity changes angels from perfect (boring) beings into fascinating, scary, magnetic creatures. More stories should have them.

Themosexuals

From a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] nannyo. "He's one of them, you know." "They do all sorts of nasty things." "You can't trust them."

Most of the time, They are people I like. Whether it's family talking about pierced & tattooed alternative types, internet liberals talking about company directors, or old-fashioned people talking about homosexuals bringing about the Fall Of Society by getting married, I tend to like them. I quite often find them a lot more attractive than not-them. Hence being a Themosexual :)

You know what comes next :)

Sorry :(

Have removed people from f-list. It's nothing personal beyond that you have the CJTC on your f-list, and I'm minimising the amount she impinges on my life.

I've played with my LJ layout (only inasmuch as picking things from dropdown lists) and I'm sulking.

I can't work out how to fix my tags. The list is mahoosive. I've been and edited the tags on a couple of posts to collapse the list slightly (like changing "aaaaa" to "aaaaaaaaaa") but the original one still shows up - just with zero uses.

(Besides, if I can collaps things enough, maybe "bloody men" won't be one of the most used tags. I'm not *that* bad, really.)

Y'know, if anyone's thinking of getting me a christmas present (yes, I know it's early, but I've started my shopping :p) but is broke, setting me up a nice custom layout would be a Wonderful Thing :)

Grrr.

From [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe, purveyor of outrage to the online classes:

Y'all heard of a community called [livejournal.com profile] iconscraper?

It's a community that is using LJ's recent pictures feed to grab icons, pics and small graphics posted anywhere on LJ at any given time and post them as icon posts for people to snag. AND it's hotlinking every single picture it's posting. 200+ pictures per post all hotlinked from various places on LJ. There are thousands of icons and even what looks to be personal pictures being hotlinked from LJ posts and posted in the [livejournal.com profile] iconscraper community.

Of course there is no credit given or even acknowledgment or explanation. It's been reported to LJ by some people already, but they appear to be claiming there is nothing they can do.

This is what you need to do to stop your stuff being hotlinked, if you would like to do so:

"If you wish for images you post to not be included in the Latest Images
feed, you may go to http://www.livejournal.com/admin/console/ and type:

set latest_optout yes

This will prevent your images from being included in this feed. The
feed also does not contain images posted with the Friends-Only or Private
security at time of posting."

Hopefully if all the people who make fab icons add that bit of code in, they will only get crappy ones in their little feed and we can all laugh at them.

In other words, if you've posted a public post (even if you've subsequently locked it), the LJ picture feed and hence this community can look at it & link to the pictures. Nice of them, isn't it?

ETA: They claim to be picking up only pictures that fit the LJ icon criteria - 100x100 pixels and <40k in size. And, of course, this is filtered through my "I have no clue about computers" brian, so I could have missed the point completely (though I doubt SB would have done) :)

LJ keeps deciding that my password's changed. I've had to do the "lost password" thing twice now.

A Firefox question: I'm using version 1.0.6 and it *keeps* losing my favourites & recent sites in the drop-down bar. It happened once about 6 months ago, and has since been getting more & more frequent. This time, it took less than a week before they all went.

A gmail question: I dl'd the (Firefox, I think) extension that gave Gmail a delete button before the official one came out. Now there is an official one, it gets all mixed up with the addon and doesn't work. Where do I have to go to delete the original addon so Gmail can run free and frolic with bunnies?

I get to see [livejournal.com profile] nannyo this weekend :) You should all be jealous of me. Hell, I'm jealous of me ;) Oooh, and I get to take the 323 over the hills :)

Music recommendations: I've replaced my Brandenburg Concertos CD. I had the von Karajan version, and it was very Serious and Grave and Dull. Now I have the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (a fabulous, fabulous time) and it's superb and bouncy and happy and full of the joys of spring :) Itzhak Perlman's Bach Violin Concertos are all jolly and mathsy too (and have far, far more depth & resonance & harmonics than Nigel Kennedy's horrible playing), as are the incredibly cheap but wonderful Aradia Ensemble Water Music / Royal Fireworks. I do like Bach and Handel; they make maths audible and it's lovely & logical & numerical and exact. Hurrah for the physics of S&M!
