So my Plan was to paint most of my downstairs in a pale yellow (Crown's Pale Gold is nice) and then have the fireplace wall in dark reddish purple with the chimneybreast in a medium shade.

Mulberry Burst is lovely, but I don't want the whole wall that colour, or just the chimney, or just the bits either side of the chimney. There aren't any medium purples that don't turn out pink. Pale purples just look rubbish.

On the other hand, Proud Peacock and Teal Tension go with each other and are gorgeous. I need a room painted with them. But what about the blinds (olive green woodstain) and my sofa (dark blue & gold)?

Gah!

maybe you need to try this to help you pick colours, I managed 108, not sure how bad that is

That's fun!

I got 4 - but the area I wasn't very good is right in the middle of the turquoises. Perhaps the peacock & teal don't go together after all...

Wow. I got 64. Still, I'm above average for my age group.

Cor, you are good! I got 11.

I found my blue telling-apart skills got better when I was doing a lot of jigsaws with sky in :)

Argh, I had to do one of those during my eye exam for the driving test. Very strangely, I managed to get them in the right order with only one break in between, i.e. up along the shade to a certain point and then down again in the wrong direction. This was a set of little pots in a rack, not on a computer, obviously.

He'll show up on anything, with his fur - black one end, and pale grey at the other...

I don't think they make cats in purple or green.

Heh. I think I know a few people who would *love* the idea of a purple cat.

I think something redder would be better than the purple one, like one of these:

http://www.crownpaint.co.uk/colour/448/flame-red.htm (I'm envisaging that looking a little paler than the square when it is on a wall in more light than exists where I am sitting at the moment!)

I've ordered the Dulux samplers, and will go back to B&Q for the Crown ones. Thanks :)

What can I do with the ones I don't want? It seems a waste to throw them away.

Offer them on LJ and see if anybody else who's painting soon wants them?

Good plan :)

I think the Mulberry one might end up in my bedroom, as the carpet has some purple in.

I love the peacock and teal! Hm, they'd go well with gold and olive, I think. Have you tried screencapping each of the colours of the different parts of the room and putting them next to each other on your desktop/in a program, see what you think?

That would involve me actually knowing how Photoshop works, instead of stumbling blindly around the "adding text to a picture" feature!

Perhaps when I get my settee in I'll have better idea - then I won't have to remember a colour I haven't spent much tie with in over a year...

Is it just me who wants to find the person who names these colours and slap them till they come to their senses? There has to be some kind of hysteria going on here... "QUICK, we need a new name for this yellow... I know, 'blanched maize'"

These don't seem like the choices made by people in their right minds.

I think it's like your lookup lists of pub names. One day, there *will* be a paint colour "Pink Paladin".
