I've been thinking about thigs I'll miss when I leave Manchester. Apart from the obvious (friends, house prices), there are a couple of oddities (the Magic Bus - grotty, but frequent).

Then there are the things I shan't miss at all. The latest "attraction" funded by Sports & Social is Ladies' Netball. Every Tuesday evening, at the Moss Side Leisure Centre.

I'd rather sandpaper my toes off.

Why is the Magic Bus magic? Does it fly, or take you through Narnia or something?

Also, do the contestants all wear bikinis for Ladies' Netball or do they only do that when they're playing on the beach?

It's Magic because it does exactly the same as the regular bus, but cheaper! It's part of Stagecoach - they've painted the oldest, ricketiest buses blue with yellow stars and set them to run almost nonstop on a couple of routes in the city.

I have no intention of findiong out what ladies wear when playing netball. All I know is that it features bibs.

Hmmm. Why not just call it the Cheap Bus then? I'd be expecting something more than just an inexpensive ticket, I'd at least want the driver to produce a rabbit out of a hat or something!

That does sound a bit poor. Bibs are not as pleasing to me as bikinis. :(

Perhaps the magic bit is how they don't fall apart?

Ah, possibly! A rather discrete sort of magic, but never mind!

Wait, you're leaving Manchester? I was so hoping to hang out with you once I move there...

Oh no! I'm afraid so. I'm moving down to Cambridge at the end of September.

But! I'll still be coming up once a month or so until my house sells (not likely to be soon, given the state of the carpets / decoration, and that it's not yet on the market). So I'll be able to come out now & then, at least :)

Ah, okay, that's good news. In the meantime, looking forward to seeing you next month at Connotations!

Is it wrong of me to wonder what a "thig" is and why you'd miss them? After all, it's obvious that "thigs" is a simple typo where a letter has been missed, and it's entirely clear why one would miss thighs.

See, that's where you're wrong. It's a typo, but not one of omission. I meant to type "thugs" - that is, the local products of insufficient contraception who (with any luck) will be making someone else's life a misery within the next six months.
