In other words, I've just seen Severance, and loved every minute of it.

It's hard to categorise; it's been touted as something in the same style as Shaun of the Dead but, apart from being a British film with killing, it really isn't. It remninded me of a cross between the remade Texas Chainsaw Massacre, 28 Days Later, and Dog Soldiers, but the bad guys are entirely human and there are no supernatural abilities.

I laughed til I cried, and yet there aren't any jokes. The humour's sick and revolves almost entirely round the huge variety of ways people get killed - but it isn't in the same OTT vein as the Monty Python "Salad Days" sketch. There are no gouts of Ribena pretending to be blood; it's more an "oh my god, I can't believe they actually thought of that" humour. The fact that one of the bad guys is credited as "knife in butt killer" sums it up. It's only rated 15, so the deaths are rarely shown up close & personal, but it's still pretty obvious what's happening.

Oh; and I never thought I'd say this, but there really is a place in films for topless hookers with big guns.

It's gone straight to the top of my "Buy without waiting for cheapass sales" list :)
