Beginning with S for [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe, this time. I'm not feeling evil enough to put her as one of them ;)

1. Silk. I love the feel of it, whether it's raw, washed, satin etc. I feel as if I'm spoiling myself when I wear it.

2. Star Industry. A poorly-known Belgian sort of goth sort of industrial band, whose backcatalogue no longer seems to be available. I've liked everything I've heard by them, though, enough to go & ask the DJs in clubs what it was. They covered Roxette's "The Look", for added kudos.

3. Squid. Preferably as Greek-style kalamari, in batter with plenty of fresh lemon, but also in Oriental dishes. I'd rather like to knit one of these squid hats one day.

4. Silver. I like the colour. Um. That's it, really.

5. Supercars. Oh, yes.

6. Snakes. Apart from the puff adder, I think all snakes are beautiful. They're fascinating, gorgeous, perfectly evolved and generally superb animals.

7. Sandman. It's not cool to like Neil Gaiman's Sandman series if you're over 25, but they're beautifully written, (mostly) beautifully illustrated, and often hauntingly familiar. They're the first graphic novels I read, and set the tone for what I enjoy.

8. Scott (Manda). An author I'll pimp again & again. She started with crime fiction set in and around a Glasgow vet practice (she's a vet and climber herself) and then started a fictional account of the Eceni and Boudica' life. Her writing swallows me whole, steals hours of my life and spits me out desperately wanting to know more. She's the *only* person ever to have got me to sympathise with the tribes fighting *against* the Romans (well, until she switches back to the Roman characters, anyway.

Hen's Teeth was her first book, followed by Night Mares, Stronger Than Death and No Good Deed. The Boudica series starts with Dreaming the Eagle, then Dreaming the Bull, and Dreaming the Hound.

9. Science. Literally meaning "knowledge". It can explain so much, and yet everything opens up new questions. Science is very sexy.

10. Sex. If done well :)

It's not? Oh well, I never pretended to be cool.

But seeing as the last regular issue came out ten years ago (time for an OMG moment!) that does't seem all that likely.

Oh and I once shared a house with a woman who was 1/3 of the inspiration for Delerium.

Thanks for Manda Scott. An author I havent come across. Sounds worth the bother. OMG I spend far too much time reading books for Teens/Adults as that's part of the job and frequently miss "proper" grown up books. Then whenever I visit anyone I get distracted from my plans by their bookshelves and end up reading /st...borrowing other stuff.(all my friends are literate and have BOOKSHELVES to fill up your life)
