I wanted 4 (realistically achievable) things in the sales:

- A memory card for the camera;
- A dustbuster or equivalent I *might* hoover if I don't need to manoever a full-size thing around a shoebox-sixed house);
- One of the Top Gear DVDs I don't have; and
- Casanova on DVD.

Within 45 minutes, I had the first three. Casanova isn't reduced in Stockport town centre, so I'll leave that for later.

*Looks around, bored*

Why can't I shop like a woman?

You're a goal-oriented person?

I was having the Archetypal Shopping Argument with [livejournal.com profile] sevenstring over Christmas. We concluded that shopping for clothes is a solved problem for him: "I Want Black Jeans. I Have Black Jeans. I Am Happy." Whereas for me a trip to the shops is like exploring an Aladdin's cave of colour, texture and style; racks and racks of magic and wonders waiting to be tried on, every single one of which has the potential to turn me into somebody excitingly different from my usual self. I've always loved dressing up and playing with my identity; clothes shopping is not really that much different. It's like every garment is a new person waiting to be met: lots of them are fun in different ways, but only the ones that really get on with me get taken home and invited to join the family :)

So I guess if you're a generally focused person and don't happen to be focused on exploring New Things at the time you're shopping, you probably won't get much out of random-shopping :)

Somebody must be rolling a d20 somewhere. If I fail my save, I shop like a girl ;)

I *can* do the aimless wandering, trying stuff on & laughing at ridiculous things. More often, I'm looking for (say) a pair of black jeans & can't find any that fit my waist, hips *and* thighs, so I get thoroughly ferd up & miserable. Then sometimes, I'm all psyched up for a day of battling the crowds and end up finishing My Mission in 45 minutes.

I wouldn't mind, if only the Someone with the dice would let me know which it was going to be in advance...
