Notes to Self.
Jul. 27th, 2005 09:51 am1. Working in the city centre is Great. Averaging 2 DB9 and 2 Bentley spottings a week.
2. re (1): When ogling Nice Cars, make sure you either stop, or check there are no lamp posts / dustbins / bus shelters in your path.
3. Joking aside (yes, I mean you,
minspi), Starbucks do not sell beagles, fruity or otherwise. You will get strange looks if you ask for one.
4. LJ isn't blocked from work. This isn't a problem now, when retraining and remembering just how much tax law there is, but it could become an issue in a few weeks. Also, paying attention to NSFW warnings might be wise.

"Day 9" of the big Get Jenny Back to Work plan, and I'm still not sick of it. This bodes well :) Mind you, I'm only up to 5 hours a day for the 3 days I'm in the office, and a 15 hour week isn't exactly onerous.
Retraining is going very well (all online lectures with examples) and I got 92% in my anti Money Laundering exam (woo!). Unfortunately, they don't teach us *how* to launder money beyond a very vague outline (something to do with layering herds of pedigree cows), but I certainly know what to do if I suspect it now. So behave.
Nearly bought a new car at the weekend (S reg Mazda 323f) but there's a slight - problem - with the mileage. The clock reads 65k, but the DVLA have 78k registered from February this year... Might get it anyway (with an approprate discount), since it can't have gone *too* far in 5 months, and the engine still runs beautifully.
Anyway, back to "work". It's changes in company ownership, reconstructions & close company provisions today. Lucky me.

Date: 2005-07-27 09:42 am (UTC)I shudder to think how much I'd have to learn if I ever went back to it. Given that I last practised tax in 1991!

Date: 2005-07-27 01:16 pm (UTC)The bits I'm remembering, I'm remembering *well*. It's the godawful (but ultimately really well run) tax law rewrite project and Gordon's amazing inability to make up his mind from one Budget to the next that's the problem. Everything has new names & section numbers; all our trainees know what they're talking about & I feel all old & obsolete!

Re: showing how long its been....
Date: 2005-07-27 01:22 pm (UTC)My on-off depression finally got too bad to ignore (i.e. the self harm / planning suicide level of badness) about 3 years ago. I was off sick for 2 1/2 years with it (coming back a couple of weeks ago), went through all sorts of counselling & therapy, just about every type of antidepressant on the market and 5 different psychiatrists.
I wish I'd dealt with it earlier (like, say, at school or university) cos it's not nice (ooh look, an understatement) hitting rock bottom. But on the bright side, at least I'm mostly fixed now (still on tablets, but otherwise judged sane) and at least I was bad enough for the health service to take me seriously.

Date: 2005-07-27 03:43 pm (UTC)Good on you for getting through it and for getting back into work as well. Just make sure you keep up the relevant amount of pride you should have for coming out the other side.
