Mum's ears have healed up (properly, not just "push it through and it'll be ok" healed over). She wants to get the re-pierced.

- She agrees that Claire's Accessories is a Bad Plan;
- She agrees that proper piercing places are much better; but
- She *really* doesn't like the captive ball / barbell style or earring that piercing places use.

Are there any sensible halfway houses she could try?

...can't she just get some 'ordinary' studs and ask the piercing place to fit those instead of the captive ball?

Labrets can look like studs. I used to have them in my ears when I worked at Morrisons.

I've had four holes peirced in my ears at Claire's Accessories and it was all completely fine. I'd reccomend them. It's best to go when 11 year olds are in school though because it's embarassing to cry in front of them.

I went to the piercing shop by the Cambridge toy shop/bingo/up the road and round the corner from The Bun Shop, they pierced by lobes with essentially the same things they use in Claire's Accessories :) (The stud earrings with butterfly backs.) Barbells and stuff I believe are only used in cartilage (i.e. ear piercing #3, when #1 and #2 will fit on the earlobe part). Wherever you have them done the piercer goes through many options of materials, designs and so on :)
