We concluded last night that if he doesn't like a city he applies that view to everything in it. He gave an Edinburgh restaurant at a similar price level and style of food/philosophy regarding ingredients five stars in both ambience and food.
He *wishes* he were the foodie Clarkson. He really isn't. Clarkson might get extreme, but he's funny with it an (nearly) always comes down to a pretty sensible conclusion. AA Gill is just plain unpleasant.
Fair point. I have to admit I haven't read much A A Gill - in terms of food critics I prefer Jay Rayner and Giles Coren. A A Gill always has way too much preamble which isn't about food.
Well, from the 4 reviews of his I read on-line I can't say that I feel that he's writing quality journalism that can't be given away for free and I wouldn't pay £1/day or £2/week to read it, especially since afterwards I wouldn't be able to line the food waster containers with my monitor.
As far as I can tell, this happens every time A A Gill opens his mouth. When I used to help my dad to sell newspapers many years ago, I used to read his columns because I knew they would make me delightfully angry with the stuck up tosser. He's like a poor man's Michael Winner.
