My Own Journey To The West!

I've told O I'll do the Great Race and passed on
munchkinott's link to the Corvette dealer.
The track day is in Vegas! How cool is that! O's something of a poker player too; I'll just have to take along a corset & distract everyone else ;)
Good grief. I'm excited enough about this that I'm not worried any more about spending a week with someone who'll be an ex-work friend and what he might think of me by the end.
====
Addendum: Things not to say in the office, Part n=n+1.
H: My brother's getting married. Everybody's getting married except me.
Me: I'm not getitng married. I'm not even getting laid.
H laughed so much she cried. G (H's red haired sidekick) went scarlet.
Note to Self. Engage brain, *then* open mouth.

Date: 2007-05-02 01:16 pm (UTC)Don't worry; wasn't talking to you :)
There's a difference, between Carry On double entendres, and being able to predict where the personal comments are going to come from. I don't want to get to the point of wanting to set up a filter so I can talk about going shopping for bras without getting detailed speculation about my breasts.
Gah. I've clearly hit the "Oh, FFS" stage of sense-of-humour-failure.

Date: 2007-05-02 09:54 am (UTC)If you have a non-biometric passport you need to apply for a visa before you go to the US. Everybody ought to know this.
Huh?
Date: 2007-05-02 10:21 am (UTC)Who says this? Link, please.
You don't (just checked with a colleague who was there last month). It needs to be machine readable, though.
Re: Huh?
Date: 2007-05-02 10:42 am (UTC)Re: Huh?
Date: 2007-05-02 10:55 am (UTC)OK, I haven't checked any British sources but as long as a German passport was issued before October 2005 (which mine is), you don't need a biometric/chipped one. I would assume this is the case for British ones (and other visa waiver countries), too.
Re: Huh?
Date: 2007-05-02 11:10 am (UTC)You can get in visa-free if you have a machine readable piece of text at the bottom with chevrons on it, and I do.
Now I am trying to remember what I read that convinced me only chipped ones were machine-readable so I can ask them to disambiguate.
Re: Huh?
Date: 2007-05-02 11:28 am (UTC)Watch next time, they open it and run the bottom of the laminated bit through a slot like you would with a card with magnetic strip.
You're right, chips are machine readable as well, which is indeed ambiguous.

You rock, but you knew that. :o)

Date: 2007-05-02 03:02 pm (UTC)Which came first, the race or the film?
Since I am a film person and very much not a car race person, I didn't even know there was a real race and only heard about it a few years back. So I naturally assumed the film came first and the actual race was invented afterwards. Was it in fact the other way round?

Date: 2007-05-02 03:10 pm (UTC)This isn't actually a "Cannonball Run" insofar as it's legal and doesn't use the name, but it is at least coast to coast across the US!

Date: 2007-05-02 03:42 pm (UTC)So there's not likely to be wackiness with Roger Moore, Burt Reynolds, Jackie Chan etc? :(

So, we've established there'll be no Roger Moore, no Burt Reynolds, no Jackie Chan and no spandex catsuits! And you're still going??? LOL

Date: 2007-05-02 04:38 pm (UTC)DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE! *bounces up and down* This will be the most awesome, exciting, otherwise fabulous and life-affirming thing you've ever done. *massive hug*
what he might think of me by the end.
Don't worry, he'll only think you're THE MOST AWESOME WOMAN WHO EVER LIVED. Cross-continental coast-to-coast racing with a corset-compulsive - I'm sorry but that is immeasurably cool. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head examined.
Me: I'm not getitng married. I'm not even getting laid.
*raises hand* Me either. I've decided there are greater things in the universe at-large than the pursuit of meaningless sex... I haven't found what these things are yet, but at least I'm deluding myself that they're there. *nods firmly*

Date: 2007-05-03 07:24 pm (UTC)On the Meaningless Sex front - you have a point. The only problem is I reached the apathetic 'oh screw it, why bother! I've got porn!' point a loooong time ago. *headdesks* I am
