[livejournal.com profile] claire_wain is ordering fabric for clothesmaking purposes. I'd really like a skirt made from this - but not without knowing what it says. Does anyone know enough kanji to translate it?

The two across in comparatively neat writing, halfway up and right of the middle under the leaf, say 'exempt' and the general honorific prefix for nouns when they belong to somebody else, and those two don't form a word together. Exempt from politeness? I don't know.

The big downwards one on the right is very difficult but the best I can do is 'stop', 'fire' (those two don't form a word together in the dictionary I have), o, me (the syllable not the concept), and I can't for the life of me make out the last one well enough to get a stroke count in order to look it up.

The downward ones at the bottom by the leaf on the left are phonetic ones, and I think they say arai, which means rough or coarse, but has its own kanji so I'm not sure why they used phonetic characters for it.

The one in the circle is difficult, because I can't tell if it's one made of lots stuck together or some separate ones. The one at the top means spoon, but I can't find any that have spoon at the top and something else at the bottom. Very confusing.

The first one of the left stack underneath the big stack that had stop and fire in it, is either 'meat' or 'moon', but the one underneath it is cut off.

The right stack underneath stop fire has 'two' and then the next one is cut off.

The two little neat ones under the two leaves on the right are 'weed/grass' (not cannabis, generic plants that grow on the ground), 'increase/add', and no compound is listed for those two. More weed! or something. (Those leaves do have 7 lobes, too...)

In conclusion, I think it's babble, and I think it's babble about cannabis, and I need to improve my Japanese reading skills.

Ah, right. I think I'll go with the other one, in that case. Thanks :)

I thought the leaves were Japanese Maple, but can see your point.
