I've been upgraded :)

No; instead of my Samsung D500 (which was ok, but which NOBODY could tell me how to configure for e-mail, since it wasn't listed on the Carphone Warehouse's or O2's websites) I have a Sony Ericsson W800.

It's white & orange. I'm claiming this is cybercolours and not fake-tanned chav. On the upside, it has a 512MB memory card and a data cable at no extra cost (which was good, since the whole point of the exercise was to upgrade my phone at no cost) and is specifically designed to be an MP3 player as much as a phone. So I don't need an iPod :)

My number isn't changing.

It's scorchingly hot outside, and stickily so. I'm starting to wonder whether doing the 10km in a corset is such a good idea. I'm definitely a Spring / autumn preferrer, unless it's a dry heat (or unless there's a swimming pool and pint of factor 50 to hand).

====

I'm tax-analysing SGA expenses today. I haven't found any mention of wormholes or a dangerously gifted physicist yet. Humbug.

That's almost the phone I want (W810i).

What's the difference?

W800i = GSM 900/1800/1900 in Smooth White
W810i = EDGE + GSM 850/900/1800/1900 in Satin Black

They are otherwise virtually identical.

Then again... The "satin black" W810i just looks so much better than the "smooth white" W800i.

Oooh, yes, much prettier. Either it isn't avaiable *here* though, or it wasn't available as a free upgrade. I'll put up with white in return for knowing I paid nothing :)

What's EDGE, and what do the different GSM numbers mean?

Ahh, at last! A chance to please that beautiful brain of yours! The answers to those questions (and many more) wait here.

Oh, one more thing: be sure to unlock your phone (since it's probably locked).

Be sure to get it unlocked (if you really need or want to) by an authorised Sony Ericsson engineer, or you've just gone and invalidated the manufacturer's Warranty on your nice new 300 quid piece of electrical telecommunications equipment.
