Right. I need help in getting organised.

I can manage to run a certain number of things at once, and I'm not going to guess a number, becasue I'd only keep remembering things I'd forgotten, and end up with more footnotes than body, sounding like the Spanish Inquisition.

Having said that, I'm managing to keep tabs on what I'm eating at the moment1 and to go to the gym2, I'm slowly catching up on the massed piles of Stuff lying around the house, and I'm doing the washing up before I run out of forks3.

I'm not remembering appointments, which I was before adding in the food bit. I forgot my therapy session tonight, which is more annoying because Sue charges for missed appointments (quite reasonably), and I persistently forget to renew my prescription before the last minute, which leaves me having to ask for it to be rushed through the GP's surgery. I do have a diary, and usually remember to write things in it, but it's bloody huge and I still forget to check whether I have anything written in it. I have loads of things I need to get around to doing (such as pay the water bill before it goes to a debt collection agency again, and write more things for Oversteer) but I get home and then it's bedtime, and I haven't even had the energy to think about getting anything done.

Yes, today at work was dreadful. And I've ended up with a number of footnotes anyway, despite my best intentions. Bother.

1 not in a dieting way, but in an out-of-interest-to-facilitate-future-fettling way.
2 I've joined GL-14, which seems very nice & has computerised programmes instead of mucky bits of paper, and runs decent looking kickboxing classes without sparring but with good technique.
3 and not by living on Chinese takeaways for the chopstick option, either.

Doctors sometimes do an automatic repeat prescription generating service, and water companies can be made to do direct debits without behaving like ntl. There's two things, anyway.

Were you at the Calling on [livejournal.com profile] karohemd's birthday, by the way?

Was there myself. Thought I spotted you, but since we've never actually met, I wasn't sure.

Aaah. Well *waves* hello!

*waves back* Are you off to WUS next week?

From: [identity profile] feanelwa.livejournal.com
Probably not, WUS isn't really my thing and I have loads to do at the moment. But Callings, yes.

Maybe see you there then. Hopefully that old schoolgirl-obsessed guy who was there last time won't be making an appearance. *shudder*

I'm fairly sure John and Loki banned him :)

I'm not sure who John & Loki are, but if they have banned him then they've done well by me.
He's an alumnus of Queens' College and has already made a nuisance of himself there several times, mostly at MCR events. Last year I had to throw him out of the Computer Scientists' Annual Dinner, too.

Really? I'd love to hear more about this. Are you sure we're talking about the same people though, first? The one I'm talking about is rather well-supplied with body fat, has dark hair, a beard and glasses, and comes up behind women, grabs them and says rude things; he has a girlfriend who's very thin, blonde, with curly hair and a hooked nose and dances very enthusiastically. Is yours the same one, or a different person?

Your description matches the guy I'm thinking of. He's quite tall, quite rotund, bearded, with curly dark hair and glasses, and was wearing a pale shirt with a loose tie around the collar, as I recall. I heard rumours that he'd been wandering around grabbing & talking suggestively at girls, as it happens. I had *no idea* that he had a girlfriend, though - that doesn't sound like him at all. He's always seemed to be unnaccompanied in the past.

From: [identity profile] feanelwa.livejournal.com
Yes, that's the one. I'd forgotten about the tie. She was a female companion of some variety, anyway.

So he's a computer scientist, then? Former, or current?

From: [identity profile] dr-wez.livejournal.com
No, he's not a computer scientist to the best of my knowledge. He tried to crash the Computer Scientists' dinner on grounds that he'd sat in amongst us during the earlier bit of the evening... As far as I know, he's an alumnus from the 70s - the Junior Bursar at Queens' seems to remember him.

My GP's doesn't do automated prescriptions, unfortunately. The best I can get is a 3-montly pre-approved rolling monthly one, so at least I don't need an actual apointment every month.

The direct debit is something I keep forgetting about (see a trend here?), but yes, I really should set one up.

Mmmm, cocoa :)

Not my quote, but it's true for me anyway:

"I've outsourced my memory. The future to my Palm PDA, and the past to LiveJournal."

I had one of those, once. I kept forgetting to charge it *and* check it.

I know how you feel. I wrote a set of PIM apps for my PDA once, with some special bits in to suit the way my brain [doesn't] organise things.

They don't work on my latest PDA, so nothing gets done anymore.

*sigh*

Tell you what - when we're both being grumpy old men, we can hire a secretary to keep track of things for us. How does that sound?

Date: 2006-04-13 09:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dr-wez.livejournal.com
What kind of a secretary?

Date: 2006-04-13 09:51 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com
I'm thinking the human kind. A secretary bird wouldn't be much good at reminding us to pay bills.

Are secretary birds not human, then? What about secretary blokes?

This is possibly the most awful thing I've ever asked anyone, but what software do they use?

What software does *who* use?

No idea. I've been there twice as a gym member, not as a software expert.

you could try putting stuff in your phone if it has automated alarms.

And if you can't do the Michael stuff let me know and I'll find someone else... I never wanted to land you with it - it just sort of made sense at the time when you offered to help.
