I was having the Archetypal Shopping Argument with sevenstring over Christmas. We concluded that shopping for clothes is a solved problem for him: "I Want Black Jeans. I Have Black Jeans. I Am Happy." Whereas for me a trip to the shops is like exploring an Aladdin's cave of colour, texture and style; racks and racks of magic and wonders waiting to be tried on, every single one of which has the potential to turn me into somebody excitingly different from my usual self. I've always loved dressing up and playing with my identity; clothes shopping is not really that much different. It's like every garment is a new person waiting to be met: lots of them are fun in different ways, but only the ones that really get on with me get taken home and invited to join the family :)
So I guess if you're a generally focused person and don't happen to be focused on exploring New Things at the time you're shopping, you probably won't get much out of random-shopping :)
