Oh, what a lovely weekend.

[livejournal.com profile] nurse_liz came to visit and we both calmed down after respective stresses of work and driving through Tintwistle, with the help of a bottle of Merlot and Domino's pizzas. [livejournal.com profile] nurse_liz even stopped sneezing sometime during the night, which was a Good Thing.

[livejournal.com profile] nannyo met us at the station, and we wandered round a foody market before finding Affleck's Palace for lunch, before being joined by [livejournal.com profile] tooth_fairy and [livejournal.com profile] mrmmarc (who made himself popular by being able to quote Shakespeare accurately), and then [livejournal.com profile] cryx.

We swore [livejournal.com profile] mrmmarc to secrecy regarding What Goes On during girly shopping trips, and took him to Abakhan Fabrics, where he was scared by the large polystyrene piles cushions rings. Bought some yarn because it was called Firefly and, over coffee, discovered it's s total bitch to knit. Nice string trio & singer doing carols in Piccadilly Gardens to take my mind off it, though. I didn't wince at her tuning once.

Home, chicken stoo, and [livejournal.com profile] nurse_liz dressed up as me while I dressed up as her. I can't remember the last time I left the house wearing nothing black. Not even my shoes and knickers were black. (Socks don't count*.)

Great time around Canal Street and Fab Cafe (hurrah for Steppenwolf!) and obligatory chips. [livejournal.com profile] nurse_liz's beatiful pink hair pulled everywhere we went, too.

Much, much knitting too. [livejournal.com profile] nurse_liz is managing to knit something that looks like a large hamster pelt out of tadpoles.

All in all, I appear to have lost my phobia & worry about having friends to stay :) Oooh, and even Pootlecat liked [livejournal.com profile] nurse_liz, and didn't *always* run away from [livejournal.com profile] nannyo.

Oh, and the Bugatti Veyron. The Marcos might have been prettier (I like muscle cars, after all) but oh, the sound and the engine and the design and Oh.

More 911 Carrera letchery though. Bah. Anyone with a hat like that doesn't deserve a Porsche.

The race would have been a lot better had it not been so obviously fixed, and the "problems" with the plane so obviously scripted.

*No, [livejournal.com profile] norfolkian and [livejournal.com profile] pink_weasel, I do not have a sock fetish.

Ooooooooo

I have some yarn that would look fantastic as socks.
*covets*

(But I still don't have a sock fetish.)

I'd like themkntted in cotton tape-like yarn :)

Oooh, imagine the sparks you could create if you danced on acrylic carpet in those!

That sent a physical shudder though me, just reading that comment. You're a sick, sick puppy.

Tis one of the reasons I loves you ;)

We had some horrible acrylic carpet floors at school and metal/glass doors. Usually wearing trainers meant a lot of static electricty...

Poor [livejournal.com profile] mrmmarc ;oP
Damn, are there photos of you not in black? The shock! Well, the bad taste dress wasn't either but you didn't go out in that one.

Well, the difference between the Marcos and the Bugatti is that the former is actually a car while the latter is just silly (what was it? 10 minutes on full tank full out?) but vrooooommmma and oooh... Neither would have luggage space for more than a truffle, though. ;o)

Beige suede halterneck, blue jeans, and beige Caterpillar-style boots. Even the tights were black in the Bad Taste photos!

12 minutes to an empty tank. But that isn't the point; it's such a beautiful pice of engineerng, that happens to be able to get someone from one place to another. That's my sort of art.

The only thing missing would have been corduroy trousers. :o)

Oh, I agree with you on that account. There's no question about the shininess and engineering of it.

*BROOM*
It took me ten minutes to stop dribbling...

I want one!!

Argh!

/me shakes head

I seem to be fated to come *one step away* from meeting cool people, and I'm meeting more & more people who've managed it. Humbug :p

I didn't meet him - I just seem to have ended up with his jacket.

And by the way, the script for the Porsche race had alternative endings depending on which was quicker, so I'm not so sure that it was fixed, you know.

As a complete aside, given you're a Goth about a year older than me who grew up near where I did - did you drink in the Red Hart/Red Lion/Bowes Lyon House?

Yes - the Red Hart (after the 3 Moorhens was raided once too often)! Though I was more of a rocker then; spray on jeans & band t-shirts :)

I can't really tell from the picture, but I think you might look vaguely familiar. I was very glam at the time - long curly red hair, heels/cowboy boots and short skirts etc. I bet we've got a number of mutual friends, but short of listing everyone I've ever drunk with (wihch would be a bit sad really) I guess we'll never know!
