I've spent the last 72 hours in London, for a training course called "Understanding Forex and Derivatives".
It was around 50% successful.
I've probably missed all sorts of excitement; there was free net access at the training premises, but it was painfully slow and we only had about half an hour a day where we could get to it. Point me at what I've missed that I shouldn't have done!
I can just about cope with memes.
madwitch told me to list "Five favourite figures you have developed an attachment to from novels who have then been 'orribly killed off" which is evil, because I first noticed this tendency while watching Babylon 5.
1. Smaug (no, not that sort of attachment). I'd rather have one dragon than any number of silly hobbitses.
2. Sirius Black. How could I not list him?
3. Herald Vanyel, from the Valdemar series. Yes, I'm embarrassed, but he was pretty, and tragic, and talented. Humbug.
4. Corvus, from the Boudica series. He was a legionary, a lovely bloke , and things almost went so, so differently.
5. Sebastian Flyte, from Brideshead Revisited - not strictly dead, but turning into an alcoholic druggie is almost as bad.
Then
faerierhona asked for my top 5 shoe shops.
1. The Home Design Store in Manchester, for their £10-less-than-Schuh New Rock prices.
2. Jake, for keeping Bronx & Xoxo brands.
3. Hobbs - expensive, but sososo comfortable.
4. Office, for really random things mixed in with beautiful stuff.
5. The many random shops in Camden with identical stock! Hurrah for bad taste!
I'm going to hurt, maim or kill
hardwired for asking for "Top 10...Positive features you have/Good things about yourself!"
1. I'm good at making people feel good about themselves.
2. I'm very good at grammar (even if I don't always bother in LJ).
3. I'm good at seeing alternatives & various options for a given situation.
4. I like my toes :)
5. I pass the pencil test!
6. My cats like me. That's a very good thing :)
7. I can change my opinion about things / people very quickly & easily, if I find out new facts.
8. I can lick my own nose, roll my tongue *and* make a sort of fluting noise if I blow through it :)
9. I make Very Good Flapjack.
10. I find it very hard to be nice to people who've treated a friend badly. I'm pleased about this.
And finally,
annwfyn asked for the "Five happiest moments in your life so far!".
1. Finding out I'd passed all my accountancy exams first time. The Chartered qualification really is that big a deal, and a first time pass really does make a huge difference.
2.
hardwired August - October 2004.
3. 2nd row from the front, Iron Maiden, Sheffield Hallam, 18 December 2006. My knees would have given way had the crowd not been so dense.
4. Any of the utterly silly weekends with
nannyo & co, where we end up laughing so hard I can't breathe.
5. Getting into a size 10 skirt when I finished low-carbing. Shame it didn't last.
Ok; apparently you can now comment with the words "Top Ten" or "Top Five", and I will reply with a subject for which you will generate a top ten (or top five) list. Post the list and these instructions in your own journal. Or not.
