I Aten't Dead ;)

I've been Working (bah), playing AD&D (in a game where standard procedure is to strip the bodies & keep *everything*, including any undies), and being Persuaded into Visiting HairyGit and Spending Money.

Yes. [livejournal.com profile] nannyo sent me a text last night (technically yesterday lunchtime, but I didn't see it til I was eating my tea) and invited me to visit & attend the "Let's Make Things Out Of Stuff" show at the showground. So I visited, and watched A Knight's Tale, and admired Paul Bettany's bottom, and was entertained by [livejournal.com profile] nannyo's gloss-induced hyperactivity, and had my brain melted by 10 minutes of Brazil.

I didn't watch Robin Hood, because I'd seen a trailer and nearly put my fist through the telly at the terrible, appalling archery. Nnnngh.

And then today I persuaded her (though it took little effort) to buy enough chunky stripy wool to knit a chunky stripy elephant, while she watched me persuade myself to buy some cross stitch kits (a lynx, and a fuzzy kitten sniffing flowers), some books (including a beautiful, beautiful one about how to do Japanese embroidery) and some undyed silk fibre. I didn't buy any of the nuggets of purest green, nor did I buy the other 5 cross stitch kits I liked, nor did I buy the entire stall of Brightly Coloured Stuff, and when I went back for some fuzzy white yarn it had gone.

Next year, we're going to kidnap [livejournal.com profile] pink_weasel and [livejournal.com profile] claire_wain, and possibly [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe too, for closeness reasons, and take them along to Marvel! at the life size swan, and be Astounded! at the floral cricket boxes, and to Explain! wtf you're supposed to do with bright orange things that look like unravelled cinnamon sticks.

And Alexander McQueen's Kingdom smells like my armpits when they're very freshly sweaty, and BPAL's Voodoo smells *gorgeous* on me and actually doesn't turn sharp and flysprayish.

I'm glad too :) Though now I have less money for Whitby than I'd hoped. Why does everything cost so much?

Tee hee hee - Brazil! :D

On a related note, I can't recommend Children Of Men highly enough.

I thought it was probably one of the best films I've ever seen, actually!

We kept looking at things and saying: "oh Weasel would LOVE this", and "we should ask Weasel what that's for". There were pebbles made of silk paper. They looked like pebbles. I got told off for touching glitter.

OOoooh! Glitter! Then I insist you kidnap me next year!

Were the pebbles silk cocoons I wonder?

No; the nuggets of purest green were silk cocoons. The pebbles were pebbles that someone had made by making silk paper and then turning it into pebbles.

they had silk cocoons too, but the pebbles were an actual stream bed, made of silk and silk paper... without any water. There was a fibre swan, with metal feet and beak too. It was amazing.

Oh shit! You play D&D??!!

I'm getting the role-playing equivalent of 'Nam flashbacks! LOL

So what's this Robin Hood shite then? The advert on the buses looks so much like the Lord of the Rings ad campaign that Peter Jackson should sue. Same type-face and everyting!

Except the bloke playing Robin just looks like some wee homeless chav. But maybe that's the idea?

Hang on, you turned up your nose at Robin Hood because of historical and archerical inaccuracy, and yet you happily watched A Knight's Tale?

From: [identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com
Well, A Knight's Tale isn't even trying, and every time they do something totally wrong, they practically wink at the camera, whereas Robin Hood was trying to be Worthy! and True!inanallegorical fashion.

was it

Reading other people thoughts I can't help be think I watched a different show

What I saw was a cheesy saturday night program which was entertaining enough for a 7pm on a saturday neither brilliantly acted or written but also not absolutely awful. Won't be terribly upset if I missed it but I would switch it on voluntarily if I was in and not doing something else

I have to say that I watched just the beginning, and then taped the rest, but the stuff I saw looked "SERIOUS", am willing to reconsider after I watch all of it. Knight's tale though, that's the height of lovely silliness.

never struck me as serious but then I think I have very different opinions to most people on these things as stuff like historical inaccuracies never both me as a I don't know what is accurate and b I am not expecting tv to be accurate and I guess I have low expectations as I am happy if something is quite entertaining and vaguely watchable then asounded if something is great (That being said if something starts great then goes downhill I tend to be more disappointed hence disliking season 2 of lost)
