*Avoidance* and a question?

Say somebody's putting together a fanmix. For example, a selection of somgs that remind them of Firefly, or Stargate: Atlantis. Now say you're downloading the songs they've chosen, being something of a fan of the series in point.
Would you prefer the songs to (a) be musically cohesive, similar in style, age & attitude; or (b) be more accurately reminiscent of the subject matter & characters? In otherwords, should selections be made on the basis of the music or the lyrics?
There is no option (c) "whatever you like, since it's your fanmix".

I like songs that feel like they are literally about someone or something. The trouble with A is that if you're sharing one type of music not everyone might like and variety is good with different things. Sorry, I'm muddleworded today.
