TOO HOT.

I went to a seminar on "Employee benefits and expenses" today at the Cambridge EY office. Their central heating appeared to be stuck on full. Now I'm at my desk, sweltering in the even-hotter-than-usual temperature. Goodness knows how I'll manage in, say, summer.

Gojyo is being serviced today*. I won't pay for a standard, get-your-book-stamped service, because I can change oil & air filters myself. This is to look at the battery / alternator / ignition problems from last week, and to try to stop the EMS light being on all the time. I hate to think what it'll all cost to fix.

I have a courtesy car; a 1 litre Yaris. Dear god, it's weird. I feel as if I'm driving a high chair - the handbrake & gear stick are way down below me - and it only sounds right in 1st-3rd gears. 4th is tolerable for dual carriageways, 5th makes it appallingly unreactive, and 6th doesn't exist.

The brakes, on the other hand, are phenomenally hard. Why are the brakes on second-hand cars never that good, even if you get the discs & pads replaced?

*snerk.

Yes, it's disconcertingly sunny today, even here in Edinburgh!

Can't you open a window, or is your office one of these places that's hermetically sealed, with satellite-controlled air conditioning and stuff?

If you can't open a window, I think you'll just have to take off some clothes. :)

I've been sitting outside in the sun with a cold drink and my knitting!*

Also, some people from the EY office next to mine had pinned up their business cards on the wall at the Sherlock Holmes museum.

*OK, wearing my coat, but y'know.

I had a Yaris as a discourtesy car a little while back. Dear gods it's dire. I had to trash the life out of it to get anywhere and it's much vaunted fuel economy wasn't in evidence - 27mpg. Horrbile nasty little thing.
