I finished Weiss Kreuz (Kapitel) last night. Wah! Consequently, I've just been out scouring the shops of Stockport for anime. [livejournal.com profile] moony, I remember you recommending Cowboy Bebop as a Firefly equivalent, and Inu Yasha, but what else? What was the one where the wonderful bad guy dies?

Anyone else have any suggestions? What I liked about WK was the style of the characters - they were drawn as (admittedly gorgeous) adults, not excessively "cute" kids. Oh, and the uncertain moral standards certainly helped. There's nothing worse than good=beautiful and evil=grotesque to make me lose all interest. Give me good=tortured-angst and evil=just-a-different-point-of-view any day. With good cheekbones.
Largely because of this post, I'm tempted to try Yami No Matsuei. Anyone ever read / seen it?

ETA: Ok; I've now seen episode 1 of YNM. More preferences appear to be: Guns good, cars good, gore & general violence./;;;;lioklllllllllll good, humans (or dead humans) good. Cute animals bad, cute chicken librarians Very Bad, dragons baffling. Cats on keyboards irritating and fuzzy.

Saturday was intended to be a meeting lots of people day, but turned into a mooching around London day (through no fault of anybody's). The Forbidden Planet is pants for its collection of anime and its fans (which couldn't blow the skin off a rice pudding). However, I unexpectedly bumped into [livejournal.com profile] omentide and [livejournal.com profile] hrafen, which was lovely after not seeing them for so long, and then wandered down to the Charing Cross Road and Cecil Court to investigate Books.

The place on the Charing Cross Road is run by Aziraphale; there's no doubt. He's middle aged, roundish, has blond curly hair and is camper than [livejournal.com profile] ukporl. In comparison, Marchpane's in Cecil Court has an original Dalek and sold me a GMF for £10 (so I'm very happy). The Henty I picked up for a fiver is full of manly adoration as well, though it's more of a history lesson with made-up characters than anything else.

Okawari, in Chinatown, is the best Japaese restaurant I've ever been to. I had a bento box but could quite easily have eaten nothing but their mackerel sashimi until I exploded. I *need* to investigate my ice-cream amker and invent sesame seed icecream, too.

*Then*, I managed to find The Weaseldome on the first go, and met [livejournal.com profile] indochine_uk and [livejournal.com profile] hullfire. Frolicking happened, as did Catalogue Man posing and admiration of Weasel's signed photo.

For the record, [livejournal.com profile] indochine_uk and I can share a single-and-a-bit futon mattress *perfectly* comfortably ;p

Moveing on to Monday, I met [livejournal.com profile] moony. She rocks. Verily so. But before that, Weasel took me round Weaselville Cemetery, where I explained my version of goth to her. We found a one-eyed teddy bear, the graves of Cliff Richard and Arthur Daley, the Scaramanga family tomb, and some carved roses that looked like a skull. Also, the most evil bunny ever.

Anyway, then I went an met Moony. Who is wonderful, and is invited to stay should U2 ever play Manchester (or in the north west generally).

We found a beautiful old Bentley (though not a 1926 model), and she thwarted me in my plans to convince the owner to sell it to me for 5p. Bah. There was pub food and anime discussions (in which [livejournal.com profile] daegaer featured as Enabler-In-Chief), musings on HP Book 7, and then sinking ducks in St. James' Park.

It was a wonderful weekend :)

(Thre are more photos in each of the photobucket galleries, but they didn't fit in the story.)
