brains...

Well, we got the necessary done by 7pm, and Manager's #1 child is being part of Background Scene for a tv series on monday, so I don't need to be in on Monday either.

Considering it worked out at only a 46 hour week, I'm exhausted. Mind you, a normal week is only 30 across 4 days.

I'm too braindead even to watch Buffy (season 2, borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] snapesbabe) so I'm engaging in a futile search for WK fanfic that doesn't treat Farfarello as a retarded near-animal only capable of saying a couple of sentences, or YnM fic that doesn't appear to have been written by 12 year olds who believe that "and they kissed and it was All Better!!!" is an acceptable resolution to a page-long story about two mortal (immortal? whatever) enemies. But maybe I struck lucky in finding [livejournal.com profile] daegaer, [livejournal.com profile] mami_san and [livejournal.com profile] lady_jaida at the outset.

And I'm putting together a "So beautiful it hurts" playlist. Does anyone have any ideas what I should put on it? It's not necessarily a maudlin feeling-sorry-for-myself list; more things that can take my mind off almost anything else, like Hallelujah (kd lang), Possession (Sarah McLachlan), My Immortal (Evanescence) and Father & Son (Cat Stevens). Go on; inspire me.

Unintended by Muse would be on my list... or Avalanche by Ryan Adams. That is gorgeous.

Oooh, I don't have either of those. Which album is the Muse one on? I know I like themenough to go & buy it :)

[identity profile] ihavecake.livejournal.com 2006-08-28 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's on Showbiz, their first album.

[identity profile] feanelwa.livejournal.com 2006-08-25 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Something from Kate Bush's Hounds of Love album, if she's your taste.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, yes! I've added "Wow", "Cloudbusting" and "Breathing" for now, though I might drop one of those.

I love Sarah McLachlan; almost all of her songs could be tagged so beautiful it hurts.

A lot of the tracks on Within Temptation's The Silent Force album might be what you're looking for: Pale, Angels, Somewhere, Memories, The Swan Song. What else? Something from The Cure's Disintegration. ♥

There might be some good suggestions here, though there are folks whose tagging defies all logic and concepts of music.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I've heard of precisely none of those... And yes; I agree that "beautiful" isn't something I'd ever think of at the same time as some of those Last.fm suggestions.

Personally, Apocalyptica's Faraway would be my first choice on any 'So beautiful it hurts' list.

And Delerium's Euphoria (Firefly) may not be so beautiful it hurts, but it can certainly take my mind off almost anything.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
...Once again (there's a theme here) I don't know either of those. Unfortunately, "beautiful" things don't often turn up on the sort of stuff I buy.

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, I don't think the album that Faraway is on was ever released in this country.

I do have Faraway in electronic format, however - a mere 4MB of M4a...

Reflections Revised Edition? I've got it on my shelf. I did get it via 101cd.com though, who may have imported it.

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have the revised edition :)

[identity profile] lark-ascending.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. You may in fact be lucky there - there's a second version of Faraway on it which has vocals. The lyrics are lovely, but the voice they've picked is this weird Macy Gray-style scratchy soul diva type and it *really* sounds odd.

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I avoid the lyrics to Faraway, on the grounds that I wrote my own not long after it came out. I dream of the day my lyricist genius is discovered ;)

For me, the Jonny Cash verison of Hurt, originally by NIN. That came on winamp earlier, stopped me dead in my tracks, tears streaming.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
YES I have that, and it's on the list! It stops me in my tracks every time :)

[identity profile] lark-ascending.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Marc Cohn - Walking in Memphis
Danny Wilson - Mary's Prayer

I'm probably weird, but these ones are really uplifting for me :)

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, yes! I don't think I've either of themas an MP3 yet, but I know they're around somewhere :) *goes & hunts them out*

[identity profile] lark-ascending.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, and also Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
...and Moonlight Shadow :)

[identity profile] lark-ascending.livejournal.com 2006-08-26 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah :)

I so need to raid my housemate's MP3 stash...

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 09:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'll be uploading a few of the ones that end up on the final playlist in hopeful return for some of the others that have been suggested here :)

[identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com 2006-08-29 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'll do you a stack of uploads for this as soon as I can decide exactly what's on my list. Juliet Turner's Everything Beautiful is burning is definitely one, as is probably the Thea Tailfeathers song. Also Lord Bateman, and the last song on the Jim Moray album (an addict? Why yes, I think you'll find I am). Fairport Convention's gorgeous gorgeous MAtty Groves, as well as their Tam Lin. Hmmm, and there are others. Snow Patrol's Chasing cars...
