Oook. Ook. Ooook!

Oook.

Three hours has never gone by so quickly :) I'll have some interesting bruises tomorrow, and I'll be walking like John Wayne for a day or two, but it was utterly, utterly, fantastic :) Proves my muscles haven't gone away, but were just in hiding, and also that I really don't have any fear of heights (or drops).

Oh, and I saw a Bugatti on the way home...

[identity profile] tooth-fairy.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That looks really cool

I'm not too scared of heights unless I think I am going to fall, however I am very clumsy and would probably therefore be scared that I was going to fall...I'd give it a shot though :)

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The ropes and things they strap you on with are great, and the instruction includes getting you to sit down in the harness & dangle off them to prove you won't fall more than a foot or two. Almost all of it you could have got through by inching along & pulling yourself along with your hands.

I'll let you know if I plan another trip :)

[identity profile] tooth-fairy.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
excellent :)

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like fun but probably not for me. No fear of heights but more a case of bad balance (although that has improved since I've picked up Tai Chi).
Which one did you go to?

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't really feel as if balance was an issue. Well, except on one crossing where I did fine but most people were wobbling about a lot :) Most was getting the hang of shifting my weight forwards enough that my back foot didn't lurch backwards & cause me to do the splits...

I went to the Grizedale one, in between Windermere and Ullswater - it's only 100 miles each way. [livejournal.com profile] dr_wez (another Cambridge person, btw) has done it too, I think at the Thetford one (though his description left rather - interesting - mental images...

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-09-04 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh-oh. I can't do the splits as my hips don't go that far...

Hm, [livejournal.com profile] dr_wez seems to be a rather lonely person, he doesn't know any Cambridgians I know (or even know of), just people I recognise from your friends list. Probably just means he isn't a goth, geek or gamer. ;o)

[identity profile] dr-wez.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps that says more about your friends than mine? ;)

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*grins* Possibly. ;o)
And if you're friends with [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat, you can't be bad. :o)

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Wez is a Very Bad Person. I can't remember why, but I like him, so it must be true :)

[identity profile] dr-wez.livejournal.com 2005-09-09 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
On the contrary, friends of [livejournal.com profile] puddingcat know it's *good* to be *bad* at least some of the time. ;)

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2005-09-09 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, bad in a good way, definitely. *wink*

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
He might not be a goth, but he does something-with-computers (so is probably a geek) and I think he plays WoW (so is probably a gamer, of sorts). One of those "why haven't I met you?" people, probably :)

Oook!

The boys have done this on school trips and I did somehting similar in my military days, but I would just love to have a go.

Bouncy ook-ness!

Oh. My. God.

[identity profile] nurse-liz.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
I could never do that. Far, far too scared of heights.

I think you and [livejournal.com profile] dr_wez are very brave!

If you have any desire to overcome a fear of heights, it's a great way to do so. You *always* have a harness on, so that the worst thing that might happen is that you end up dangling awkwardly from somewhere.

We took a lass with us who was genuinely petrified of heights and who made it round the entire course (using the Bosun's Chair for the tougher bits) and did fine. She even became addicted to the zip-slides.

The people I went with would need to be really patient with me. I have a tendency to freeze and need coaxing when it comes to these things. Quite pathetic really.

Re: Oh. My. God.

[identity profile] dr-wez.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
The lass we went with had the same sort of problem. Her boyfriend was very patient with her, and then we hit upon the scheme of keeping her in the middle of the group, which made it easier to keep her momentum going so she didn't stop and start thinking evil thoughts. By the end of it, she wasn't exactly leaping from tree to tree but she was noticably more confident.

I really want to have a go at this,

perhaps we should organise a wheelie trip then we can all help liz along

Re: Oh. My. God.

[identity profile] dr-wez.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like an excellent plan. Shall we make it part of Le Weekend, or do it sooner (while the weather's still OK)?

When nannyo and muppet return we should see when everyone is free

I suspect elliphant and utcsb may also be interested but I suspect cabd will give it a miss given his terrible vertigo

I'll certainly do Grizedale again, but could be persuaded to travel the length of the country to sample Southern (i.e. superior) trees :)

Well, it's set up in 5 sections - you can drop out completely after the first one & get a full refund, or after any of teh others if you don't want to carry on. At each of the two hardest bits (hard = needing arm strength) there's an easier shortcut, too.

Freezing might have been the easiest way of all at times - taking all the weight off my legs & just sliding along the safety cable would ave been much easier, and would have reminded me that I *couldn't* fall.

cool

[identity profile] fire-kitten.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I definately need to go and do that too

[identity profile] dragonmamma.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd definitely love to come.........and watch! But glad that a good time was had. If resposible adults are needed to accompany under 16, do you think several responsible young persons should be needed to accompany aged parents??

Re: cool

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2005-09-05 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I could tell, mothers and dogs followed on foot, getting a crick in their neck from looking up all the time, and ending up with lots of unflattering photos of people in harnesses.

I can feel a Plan coming on :) It's open all year round, so something next month could be possible?
