Bah.

Thankyou, [livejournal.com profile] the_xtina for the link(s).

THIS. SO ENRAGING.

Except I'd expand the definition to cover all "explaining the bloody obvious", aka "teaching a Michelin chef how to boil an egg". Not necessarily a problem *if you don't know the mansplainee's level of knowledge*, but once you do? Stop.

I don't think it needs to come with the creepiness mentioned in the third link; overt sexism isn't always part of manslaining. It just needs that level of self-centredness to talk over the 'splainee and to consider it more important to show off your knowledge than to listen to her.

(Yes, some women mansplain to men. However, it's like scratching your genitals in public - the vast majority of culprits are male.)

OMG, yes! I hate this. What's worse, my boss does it all the time. And since he's the boss I can't even get away.

Um.....the third link doesn't work? I don't know. I clicked it and it led back to this page...maybe it's just me. *sheepish*

OMG yes. And it doesnt get any better as you age cos then you get young people talking to you like that as well. I mean you cant obviously know very much cos you're a woman and old as well so practically senile then.
