PINK!

PINK!

I also want a Neither option because the jays I know look like this.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! That's what I'm talking about! They even look pink sitting in the Parent People's cherry tree!

We must have a very different opinion on what's pink, then.
Here's a clearer photo, still not pink.

that's exactly the species she showed us!

Have a look at my comment for the true blue jay.

Predominantly pink but with quite striking blue bits?

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you :)

[identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but if the Jay colourway is all blue, it could be cos the American continent has a Blue Jay which is properly blue, not coppery/pinky/bluey. So BOTH are right, this I cannot fill in the form. Although I think that Ozzy is taking the piss, showing you a picture of exactly the same species of bird that you showed...

OK, here's the Blue Jay

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I didn't know which photo PC showed and I still don't see any pink.

[identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
ahha! It could just be your monitor/colour viewing. Do you see dusky, coppery colours? It isn't all blue by a long shot. I thought you were teasing.. Wasn't being mean.

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
No, there's only one blue bit at the wings. Dusky, coppery (which is far from pink) is right.

[identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
also, the blue jay doesn't have any, but the Eurasian one is sort of pinky(ish) as well. We get the Eurasian here, and it's the same as the one on mainland Europe. I think people think they're blue because it's the blue wing flash that they notice in the autumn when the birds are eating acorns. I've always thought of them as dusky pinky/purple birds.

The jays from my memory (haven't seen any here) are pretty well camouflaged with earthy tones with a flash of blue.

The closest to pink birds I can think of are (I hope my dictionary and wikipedia are correct) are bullfinches.

[identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
bullfinches and chaffinches are definitely more pink than jays. It's all a bit subjective anyway... What colour are peacocks?

And I think that Pink Pigeons are just mucky looking beige birds.

And the perception changes with the light conditions, too.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, it looks like someone crossed a kingfisher with a blue tit! Pretty!

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And I keep translating "doing bird" in my head with something entirely inappropriate. Argh.

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I use it to mean "serving a jail sentence", much like Porridge :)

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh
The German "vögeln" means "shagging"...

[identity profile] ihavecake.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha! This poll wins for conclusiveness!

[identity profile] puddingcat.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No; it just means lots of people are wrong. Or American.

[identity profile] claire-wain.livejournal.com 2007-03-12 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello! I am a little late to this party so all of the correct answers have alreasy been given, but I want to get my four penn'orth in anyway. ;)

1) Jays are pink.
2) Unless you're in America, where they're blue.
3) Colinette are not in America, therefore their Jay colourway should be pink.

The End.

I love jays. I love all corvids, but jays are the prettiest. I have tiny baby oak trees growing in my flower pots, thanks to jays planting haycorns there in the winter. :)

You Win :) I agree with everything you've said.

Perhaps I should knit a jay with my pink wool?
