Hairy stuff (but not Hairy Git).

Talking (well, MSNing, which is as close as I usually get) to [livejournal.com profile] redshira last night, I'm getting more enamoured of the idea of cutting off all my hair. I'm not *quite* brave enough to go for a 2" crop & bleach what's left all at once, but I do quite like the idea of something Too Short To Put Up.

I don't want one of these styles that's gelled flat & sideways to the face at the front, and spiked up at the back. Nor do I want anything that requires skilled use of a hairdryer to keep from looking dreadful; I can just about blowdry a fringe straight, and do the upside-down-with-mousse thing, but anything that requires 3 elbows per arm is beyond me. I reckon I'll need a fringe, since I have a narrow face. My hair tends to stay flat to my head down to the tops of my ears, then has a definite kink from there on - and in the last inch, however long/short it is. Realistically, this icon is my day-to-day hair - fine and refuses to go properly straight.

Does anyone have any style suggestions that won't make me look like a middle aged potato? I have a fear of getting suggestions from haridressers, since they're all painfully trendy or drearily frumpy, or so alternative I'll be asked to stay at home until I look normal again.

You should buy a HAIR magazine. I find that helpful.

While I understand the need to chop off one's hair from time to time I actually think your hair rather suits you that length. The same only blonde with curled up ends might be the most devastatingly sexy thing.

Oh and with a thin satin alice band from Claire's Accessories. Peachy.

I second buying HAIR or similar

Yes'm! *touches forelock*

Heavens. I'll turn nto a Real Girl at this rate. I'll have to ask for a short back & sides to compensate...

Thank you :) It's a little long atm; if I chicken out completely, I'll still get about 3" off next time.

Bleaching it all would leave it horribly, horribly dry - I'd need to get the black stripped out first, as well - and then it won't stay longer than shoulder length (from what i rememebr of having it ginger). Also, I can't do the curled up ends thing.

Hair magazine might be an option. And irritate me at the levels of styling competency rquired, but it'll be a start.

I say go for buying hair mags. I'm rubbish with my hair - and asked the hairdresser to 'make me look more modern'. But be a long time before I get any length cut off. There's some gorgeous short kinda 'pixie' hair dos that might suit you.

I like your hair - but I guess a change is sometimes good - I usually just reach for the dye bottle.

I've tried a selection of colours, from bright ginger through to dark burgundy red, and blonde highlights, and come back to feeling most comfortable and *me* with blue-black.

Pixie would be fab, but I have a TERROR of having it go *curly*curly and looking like Clarkson. It would be much easier it it was straight.

[identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com 2006-07-06 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
you will NEVER EVER look like Clarkson, EVER. Mine is CURLY CURLY CURLY, and when short looked quite a lot like this icon. I think the pixie-ish razor cut short does would look fantabulous on you, have a look at some of the communities that [livejournal.com profile] claire_wain is on, and see whether there are any good suggestions on there. Actually, getting it cut short and curly (sniggers) could be really glamorous and easy (with layers they can acheive most things), all you'd have to do is wash it, condition, and bung some curl enhancer type product in... Welcome to my world!

My blue is fading...

Oh, but short & curly would make me look like Mum, and while it's fine on her, I'm 31 years younger & don't want to look like a pensioner!

[identity profile] nannyo.livejournal.com 2006-07-06 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
it wouldn't make you look like her if you had a different short and curly haircut! If you had a young and funky one, it would be cool. I'm not suggesting a granny short and perma styled curly type do. Maybe something that emphasizes your waves, and the shape of your hair/head?

May I reccomend NOT the hairdo in this icon o'mine?
N.

Well, lots of people in the Bermondsey Collective tend to get [livejournal.com profile] marnameow to cut their hair.

Are you still up for coming down this weekend? If so, you could ask her in the flesh? Or see if she has some ideas, rather than going to a "real" hairdresser?

[identity profile] catsgomiaow.livejournal.com 2006-07-06 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to suggest what he just said! :)

[identity profile] nurse-liz.livejournal.com 2006-07-06 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
How about this

or this?

(crossing fingers that I've done this properly and you can see the images not just loads of gobbledegook)

[identity profile] nurse-liz.livejournal.com 2006-07-06 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, kind of worked. Was also meant to be an image of Audrey Tatou in Amelie. But apparently that got lost...

But anyway, some kind of short pixie crop type thing, I think.

[identity profile] bloomeenee.livejournal.com 2006-07-06 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Drool... winona with pixie cut!
Anyway, i loved my hair short, but did get bored very easily with it coz I couldn't play...
You could go shorter and still fiftiesesque if you're feeling less brave... although i don't have any suggestions
