AAaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh....

*Is dead*

James May, talking about the physics of violins on Radio 3. Comparing Bach to Porsches, and Pythagoras and harmonics and double stopping and Chopin and GUH.

Holy crap, there is nothing more attractive than well-applied intelligence.

He did what about violins? *gulp*

Pythagoras I can handle.

Violin physics, no. I can bore for England on the bloody subject I do not need it hawt-izing. Especially when I can't vibratto for shit.

It helps if having physics talked at you is something of a turn on...

Oh physics being talked at me is a turn on anyway.

It's the thought of string vibration and sound magnification/amplification in a violin-y context that's... I can't listen to anyone talking about stuff like that without it combusting me knickers. ¬.¬ In short, it's a good job I missed it, innit?

There's an old Fellow at Queens' who makes violins as a hobby and whom I was specifically warned not to ask about it, lest I find the conversation end just in time for me to go & collect my old-age pension.

The physics of things that you don't normally think of as "scientific" is fun.

Everything's scientific! It's all just applied physics :) The flailing comes from being a violinist-on-hiatus & having done a course int he physics of S&M in First Year :)

So, when would you like to see my shiny new car?

[identity profile] dr-wez.livejournal.com 2006-02-14 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to assume that's not the S&M that a casual observer might assume...

Shiny new car? Soon soon soon!
