Ohhh...

This is the race.

O reckons it'll cost us ~£4k each, including flights and depreciation on whatever we drive. He has the capital to buy the car in the first place, and will either keep it at the end or sell it on, in which case I'll pay him half what it's lost in value.

He's been looking at AMG SLs, Corvettes and the like... We'd both kill to do it in a 911, but we'd want a GT3 and they're a little out of his price range. I've told him no BMWs and nothing French - ideally, I'd like something extraordinarily British (near-impossible to get at a decent price in New York) or phenomenally American (since it'll be the only time I *ever* get to drive something like a Corvette on the roads for which it was designed).

The Parent People are even being vaguely positive about the idea. Granted, they're having a fortnight's cruise up the Danube this year, which is costing an arm & a leg, but I expected some sort of "don't waste your money" complaint.

On the other hand, Pop earned his money by owning a garage, so there aren't many more relevant uses for it...

Good grief. I appear to be taking this seriously.

The '73 or the '78? The '73's looks like a vampire!XJ-S (http://www.answers.com/topic/jaguar-xjs) and the '78's looks like a '80 928's sprouted a bumper.

Really, car!bums are not a good place to look at.

The '78's. I like being able to look out the back and the vertical window with the side bits in the '73 look inconvient.

No, but I like the front and middle bits. :o)

Ahhhhh, so I'm not the only one with a rear-windscreen visability paranoia? (The '73 doesn't HAVE a rear-windscreen... It has a single-glazed letterbox.)

I'm quite partial to the side view as much as the front and the middle bits. :-D On side view merit the '73 is WIN.

It's the whole wavy sideline that really makes me want a '73, ever since I saw one at the US car dealer in Nuremberg.
